What is Make May Purple for stroke?

Make May Purple for stroke is our annual stroke awareness month, taking place every May. Stroke strikes every five minutes, and destroys lives. Help us rebuild them.

When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. That’s because a stroke happens in the brain, the control centre for who we are and what we can do. Recovery is tough, but with the right specialist support and a ton of courage and determination, the brain can adapt. Our specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community.

With more donations and support from you and your community, we can rebuild even more lives. Because we believe that everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke.

Make May Purple has finished for this year but if you would like to fundraise for the Stroke Association you can request our free Take Action on Stroke fundraising pack.

Wear Purple

Helping stroke survivors rebuild their lives after a stroke couldn’t be easier. All you have to do is wear purple in May, and every penny raised will help us provide support for stroke survivors.

You can wear purple to work, or at a local community event – wherever you are, we’re asking you to turn all your activities purple during the month of May. Whether that means wearing purple for a month or a day, or hosting a dress down day at work, whatever you do to raise funds it really makes a difference to stroke survivors.

You can go as purple as you want – why not dye your hair purple? Or host a purple party? Whatever you choose to do, we’d love to have you on board.

Go purple in the office with workmates

Get everyone to dress in purple for the day – everyone pays £1 to wear something purple, and anyone who doesn’t pay a penalty, you decide the fine!

Host a purple bake sale and play purple games

Club together and sponsor your boss to dress head to toe in purple for the day, in an outfit the office decides…

At home with friends

A great way of raising money is to host a purple bake sale in your local town hall. Put posters up around town and invite friends, family and everybody you know! Ask them to wear purple too.

Invite your friends round for a purple dinner; if the sun is out, make it a garden party. Serve nothing but purple food and drink (think blackcurrant squash, blueberry tea and beetroot salad!) Get creative. Get everyone to wear purple and play purple games.

Get your spin class to dress in purple and have a sponsored cycle.

Or why not host a five a side donation-based tournament? Get everyone wearing purple - just make sure you have coloured bibs to identify the teams!

Take lots of photos, and spread the word. You are doing something amazing for stroke survivors, shout it from the rooftops, or at the very least on social media and remember to #MakeMayPurple
