What is Make May Purple for stroke?
Make May Purple for stroke is our annual stroke awareness month, taking place every May. Stroke strikes every five minutes and destroys lives. Help us rebuild them.
When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. That’s because a stroke happens in the brain, the control centre for who we are and what we can do. Recovery is tough, but with the right specialist support and a ton of courage and determination, the brain can adapt. We know that stroke in early life has the potential for long term impact on the lives of children and their families. That’s why we need the stroke community to help us provide our specialist support, research and campaigning.
Get your school involved in Make May Purple and help us to rebuild lives fter stroke.
Helping stroke survivors rebuild their lives after a stroke couldn’t be easier. All you have to do is wear purple in May, and every penny raised will help us provide support for stroke survivors.
Your school or nursery can wear purple for a day; perhaps on the school sports day or just on a regular day. It could be as simple as a purple tie, hat, and shirt, or for the more adventurous student: purple fancy dress. Ask for a donation that is appropriate for your school or nursery. Whatever you raise, it really makes a difference to stroke survivors.
Purple arts and crafts – collection box challenge
When you get our pack, you’ll see the collection box challenge inside. This is a great way to get creative with the children, whilst doing something amazing for stroke survivors.
Inside the pack, you will find the collection box stencil and some Stroke Association stickers. Build the collection box, cover with glitter, paint, coloured paper, and the Stroke Association stickers provided.
Once decorated, the children can take the collection box home to get donations from friends and family members.
Please note - the collection box is not to be used for street collections or door to door, as you need a licence for this type of collection.
If you want to share what your school did on your school social pages remember to #MakeMayPurple so that everyone can see the great work. Sharing the artwork from the collection box challenge is a great way to showcase your students’ fantastic creations.
