In February 2017 the Stroke Association and Well Pharmacy joined forces to try and reduce people’s risk of stroke across the UK. The national pharmacy chain is aiming to raise £250,000 for Stroke Association’s Know Your Blood Pressure campaign, which helps people lower their risk of stroke by providing blood pressure checks within local communities. With 780 pharmacies across the UK, Well are passionate about providing people with personalized healthcare and well-being support.
The new charity partnership will focus on promoting stroke prevention by raising awareness of high blood pressure as the biggest controllable risk factor for stroke. Well Pharmacy offers free blood pressure checks and advice in its stores nationwide, helping more people than ever before take steps to reduce their risk of stroke.
Our Charity of the Year partnership with Royal Mail has raised a fantastic £1 million to fund 5,000 Life After Stroke grants and is set to raise a further £1 million by the end of the partnership to fund 10,000 grants.
The grants help improve the quality of life for stroke survivors and their families by funding much-needed equipment, from bicycles and gym memberships to embark on a healthy lifestyle, to driving lessons and sat navs to regain independence and confidence.
Jon Barrick, CEO at the Stroke Association, said: “Thanks to the millions of pounds raised by our charity partners, like Royal Mail, the Stroke Association has been able to support stroke survivors in their life after stroke at a time when they need us the most.”
Jeff Oatham, Head of Corporate Responsibility and Community Investment at Royal Mail, said: “Making it to £1 million is an incredible achievement and we are immensely proud of every single person who helped to make this happen.”
Since September 2014, Royal Mail staff have been aiming to raise £2 million by taking part in a range of fundraising activities, including 5k runs, cricket tournaments, car washes, bake-offs and quizzes.
