Our Charity of the Year partnership with Royal Mail has raised a fantastic £1 million to fund 5,000 Life After Stroke grants and is set to raise a further £1 million by the end of the partnership to fund 10,000 grants.
The grants help improve the quality of life for stroke survivors and their families by funding much-needed equipment, from bicycles and gym memberships to embark on a healthy lifestyle, to driving lessons and sat navs to regain independence and confidence.
Jon Barrick, CEO at the Stroke Association, said: “Thanks to the millions of pounds raised by our charity partners, like Royal Mail, the Stroke Association has been able to support stroke survivors in their life after stroke at a time when they need us the most.”
Jeff Oatham, Head of Corporate Responsibility and Community Investment at Royal Mail, said: “Making it to £1 million is an incredible achievement and we are immensely proud of every single person who helped to make this happen.”
Since September 2014, Royal Mail staff have been aiming to raise £2 million by taking part in a range of fundraising activities, including 5k runs, cricket tournaments, car washes, bake-offs and quizzes.

In June 2014 we embarked on a strategic partnership with leading high-street opticians Vision Express, focusing on the link between stroke and visual problems (up to 60% of all stroke survivors will experience visual problems after their stroke.)

Pink Lady® apples strive for one thing: to deliver the perfect apple every time. Grown to exacting standards, only the best of the best are chosen, picked by hand and rewarded with the Pink Lady® heart-shaped seal of approval. Pink Lady® apples are grown in the greatest wine regions of the world, and owe their warm blush to the sun. They are the first apples to blossom and the last to be harvested, and that extra time on the tree, along with a warm climate and rich, fertile soil give Pink Lady® apples their sweet, succulent crunch and famous colour.
There is a clear synergy between the Stroke Association and Pink Lady® which interlinks our work. Eating plenty of fruit and vegetables as part of a healthy balanced diet can help to reduce your risk of stroke. Pink Lady® apples are also high in flavonoids, a plant based nutrient. Working together to promote a healthy diet and lifestyle is something that we are jointly committed to.
Pink Lady® are sponsors of the Adult Courage (18-64) Award at the Life After Stroke Awards 2016. They have also given generous corporate ‘in kind’ donations including providing us with apples for our Thames Bridges Bike Ride participants and giving us London Marathon places to be raffled off to our supporters. Their London Marathon runners also raise money for the Stroke Association. Our relationship continues, with many more exciting opportunities on the horizon.
