The World Health Organisation estimates that 2.5 million global deaths a year could be prevented if our salt consumption was reduced to recommended levels. In the UK, the NHS recommends that adults consume no more than 6g of salt a day (about a teaspoon) but average salt consumption is about 40% higher than this maximum (8.4g salt/day).

So why is that?

High blood pressure (hypertension) is the single biggest risk factor for stroke and plays a part in about half of all strokes.  A diet high in sodium can raise your blood pressure and most of the sodium we consume is in the form of salt.

If everyone in the UK reduced their salt intake by one gram per day, it’s estimated 4,147 premature deaths from the likes of stroke and heart disease could be prevented.

We are delighted to partner with LoSalt®, the UK’s leading reduced sodium salt alternative, who have championed the public to Season with SenseTM for over four decades.

Ideally, everyone should cut down or even stop adding salt to their food. But we know that many people would find this really hard because they like the enhanced flavour that salt can provide. If that’s the case, then it’s good to know that there is an alternative to regular salt. With 66% less sodium than regular table salt, sea salts and rock salts, switching to LoSalt can help maintain normal blood pressure without sacrificing flavour.
