This year, Know Your Blood Pressure day was 14 April 2018, but you can arrange your event at any time of the year.

How to organise your event

If you’re new to organising a Know Your Blood Pressure event, get started by following the simple steps below:
  • Read our event guidelines containing all the information you need to run a successful event.
  • Arrange a venue and confirm the date.
  • Register your event. You'll receive an event number and welcome pack which will include a copy of the event guidelines, a materials order form and a promotional toolkit. Please register your event at least four weeks in advance.
  • Recruit trained healthcare professionals to take blood pressures at your event and some other volunteers to help encourage people to have their blood pressure taken and to hand out leaflets.
  • See our ordering your materials section for resources to support your event and order via our online form. Please order your event materials at least three weeks in advance
  • Complete a copy of our safety checklist for every event you hold. You do not need to return this to us, but please do keep a copy for your records.

Please return your event forms (Form 1 and the top copy of Form 2) within two working days of your event, using Royal Mail Signed for Delivery. Please read our KYBP data returns process for more details on how you must handle and return your data. Please return your data to:

Ordering your materials

At a minimum, you should make sure you have a supply of the following:
  • Know Your Blood Pressure information leaflets (200 max)
  • Data Collection Pads Form 1 (Consent) and Form 2 (Anonymous health data) (50 forms per pad)
  • A copy of our event guidelines

We also have Stroke Association leaflets available on a number of topics including healthy eating, alcohol, smoking, diabetes and other risk factors for stroke, as well as advice on how to reduce your risk of stroke. You can order everything you need by completing our online form.

Please be careful not to over-order leaflets, as you will find that not many people will take these away from the event.

Although our Know Your Blood Pressure materials are free, we do encourage a donation of £10 (£15 if you order more than 1,000 items) towards postage and packing. If you would like to make this donation, please include a cheque made payable to the Stroke Association in the envelope you return your event forms in after your event.

Insurance certificates

We provide insurance for Rotary Club members and volunteers at registered Know Your Blood Pressure events only. This includes medical malpractice insurance for claims for bodily injury and advice. Insurance cover is also extended to non-Rotary volunteers at Know Your Blood Pressure events provided that they are appropriately trained to take blood pressures and give guidance and that their name is recorded at the event.

In order to be covered by our insurance policy, please ensure you register your event ahead of time.

Make sure you have completed our safety checklist and download the Stroke Association's Employers Public and Products Liability verification letter and Medical Malpractice verification letter. These documents will be updated in the first week of April 2019.

Promoting your event

  • Use our posters to promote the event in your local community.
  • Send a copy of our press release to your local newspaper and radio stations.
  • Use our Promotional Toolkit to help you spread the word about your event. The toolkit contains helpful advice for promoting your event and attracting media attention. Remember to target your venue’s communication channels to help you spread the word.
