Commission our Life After Stroke Services
Every year there are about 152,000 strokes in the UK, and with over half of all stroke survivors left with a long term disability, the demand for on-going care and support is growing. In addition to the personal impact, the treatment of stroke and the productivity losses caused by stroke, cost the UK economy almost £9 billion every year.
At the Stroke Association we believe with the right support, people can still enjoy life and contribute to society. With over 30 years’ experience of working with stroke survivors and their families we know the importance of responsive, tailored and high quality care at all stages of the stroke pathway.
Our life after stroke services are designed to provide the right support at the right time to ensure every stroke survivor makes the best recovery possible. We currently offer a range of services covering the whole stroke pathway through our new Stroke Recovery Service and individual service elements including My Stroke Guide, Post-stroke Reviews, Communication Support, Emotional Support and Exercises Based Stroke Rehabilitation.
Our services can help you:
- reduce hospital readmissions
- shorten hospital stays
- facilitate better integration of care
- save other statutory expenditure
- meet current government imperatives and requirements of national stroke strategies across the UK.
Our services impact
In January 2016 we implemented changes to our services and information systems which have allowed us to collect data and gather evidence to demonstrate the impact our services make to quality of life following a stroke. As a result stroke survivors and carers tell us that recovery after stroke has become less overwhelming with our support.
Our work directly addresses national priorities for health and social care as reflected in various domains [D] of the Public Health [PH], NHS, and Adult Social Care [ASC] outcome frameworks.
For more information please see our service impact summary.
We have also recently commissioned a very positive qualitative evaluation of our Stroke Recovery Service. Please read our stroke recovery service executive summary.
