Our Lectureship Programme

Over the last twenty years we have worked to build capacity in stroke research, funding in excess of 100 research fellows as well as the UK's first Chair in Stroke.

As part of a new research strategy we have gone much further, committing ourselves to building the next generation of research leaders through our lectureship programme.

Over the course of the programme we aim to support 15 Stroke Association Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Reader positions.

These positions will play a critical role in building a vibrant community of clinical and non-clinical stroke researchers across the UK.

Year one (2014-15)

Through the first round of our lectureship programme, we awarded positions to five outstanding candidates. These were presented at the prestigious Stroke Association Keynote Lecture 2015

Year two (2015-16)

In the second round of our lectureship programme, we awarded positions to two outstanding candidates. These were presented at our Stroke Association Keynote Lecture 2016

Year three (2016-17)

In the third round of our lectureship programme, we awarded positions to three outstanding candidates. These were presented at our Stroke Association Keynote Lecture 2017.

Year four (2017-18)

This year, we were calling for applications to our UK-wide lectureship awards. These awards are available to researchers across Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England.

Please do share with peers and colleagues and help to ensure we can deliver successful capacity building in stroke research in the UK.

For this lectureship call, we have separated the funding scheme into the eight different awards available (see the above section). Please read our Guidance document for more information about the award, the amount of funding available, and eligibility criteria for each of the award types before beginning an application.

We have launched our new online award management system at the same time as this funding call.

This system should work on all major browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge. However, as Microsoft stopped security updates and technical support for all versions of Internet Explorer below IE11 in January 2016, we would not recommend using Internet Explorer below version 9.

If you have any issues with the system or have any feedback, please email us at research@stroke.org.uk or call 020 7566 1543.
