Resource type

For many people, bereavement is one of the hardest things they will have to go through. This guide looks at the emotional impact of bereavement, including grief and the effect it can have on carers and family members.

The guide explains some of the reasons why someone might not survive a stroke. It also covers some of the topics that can arise when someone is seriously ill after a stroke, such as consenting to treatment and advance decisions.

It also includes a list of useful resources to help you with practical issues such as how to register a death, finding professional counselling services and support for bereaved children.
