Around 85% of strokes are due to a blocked blood vessel in the brain. This type of stroke is called an ischaemic stroke, sometimes known as a clot. This guide explains the causes of ischaemic stroke, how it's diagnosed and treated, and some of the the physical and emotional impacts of a stroke.

It also explains how to spot the common signs of a stroke using the FAST test. It includes a list of useful organisations that can provide advice and support after your stroke.
