This research will develop a new self-management programme for stroke survivors with aphasia and their families, to help them to adjust to and manage their lives after stroke.
This research aims to improve outcomes for Intracerebral Haemorrhage (ICH) patients by developing new emergency treatments to reduce swelling in the brain after ICH, and improving the care they receive.
Spatial neglect is caused when damage to the brain after stroke means that it no longer received information about one side of the body and/or world. Stroke survivors with spatial neglect might not be aware of anything happening on one side of their body. This research will investigate a computer based version of a new treatment for spatial neglect after stroke.
This research will test a new questionnaire which has been designed to measure the impact that stroke-related vision problems have on a stroke survivor’s quality of life.
Torpor is a natural state of reduced energy use and body temperature. This research will look at the effect of torpor on brain activity and function, and the amount of brain damage caused by ischaemic stroke.
Everyday talking involves being able to understand sentences, something that can be affected by aphasia. This research will design and test a new therapy which aims to help improve understanding of everyday sentences in people with aphasia.

The annual Edinburgh Stroke Winter School aims to help new or aspiring stroke academics develop answerable research questions. Applications are encouraged from all specialities relevant to patients with stroke, including medicine and the allied health professions.
This research is focused on assessing the relationship between the variability of the blood flow through the blood vessels supplying the brain, and the risk of stroke in patients who have already had a stroke or “mini-stroke” (TIA) in the past.
This fellowship will involve the study of the human eye to find out about the health of the brain’s small blood vessels and nerve connections in people who have recently had a stroke.
