Links between stroke and coronavirus (COVID-19) have hit the headlines over the last year. But we still don’t know if the virus can cause stroke, in whom, and how.

Two years after the spring 2020 lockdown, the first results are available from a study funded by the Stroke Association and other partners into the links between Covid-19 and stroke.

In January 2023, the Stroke Association joined forces with mental health charity Mind Cymru to begin to scope out and test the first model of mental health support for people affected by stroke in Wales.

We don’t know enough about why COVID-19 may increase the risk of stroke, for whom, and how we could stop COVID-19 patients having a stroke. This new research funding call is hoping to change this.
