Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is an unusual form of stroke. It is little researched largely because it accounts for less than 1% of all strokes. The study will provide a much better understanding for the reasons underlying CVT, which is an unusual but very important cause of stroke in young (mainly female) adults.

Up to 70% of stroke survivors complain of tiredness or fatigue, sometimes years after stroke. Unlike normal tiredness, post stroke fatigue does not always respond to rest. The cause of extreme tiredness is not known and there are no definitive treatments available.
The recovery of stroke survivors with language difficulties is famously variable. Some stroke survivors recover much more quickly or fully than others. Some respond to treatment much better than others.
Thrombolysis, where drugs are injected into the blood to break up a blood clot, is one of the main treatments used to treat people who are having a stroke caused by a clot. Currently a drug called alteplase is used in thrombolysis. But the researchers think that another drug, called tenecteplase, may be more effective than alteplase. This study will investigate if this is the case.
