Disease of the chest portion of the largest artery in the body (the aorta), is known as thoracic aortic disease (TAD). The number of people experiencing TAD is increasing. This study is investigating how to make thoracic endovascular aortic stenting (TEVAR), the preferred method of treating TAD, safer by using extra protection devices.
Stenting of the carotid arteries (running up the sides of the neck) is a common surgical procedure to reduce the risk of stroke. Stenting involves inserting a metal mesh into the artery to help widen it and improve blood flow.
How should we best prevent narrowed neck arteries causing stroke?

Two more studies support (thrombectomy) mechanical clot retrieval for stroke.
Two new research studies were published today, supporting the use of thrombectomy (mechanical retrieval of clots in the brain) for the treatment of large ischaemic strokes.
Presented at the International Stroke Conference 2016, the final results from the PISTE trial (Pragmatic Ischaemic Stroke Thrombectomy Evaluation) add new evidence for the effectiveness of mechanical clot retri
MR CLEAN is a Dutch trial that investigated treatment of a severe form of ischaemic stroke (blockage type stroke) with thrombolysis alone (dissolving a clot with clot-busting drugs), versus treatment with both thrombolysis.
The first day of the European Stroke Organisation Conference (ESOC) 2017 in Prague included some truly inspiring scientific sessions. These included reporting from the DAWN study which suggests that more patients could be able to receive mechanical thrombectomy after stroke.
