Stroke is one of the biggest killers in Wales and a leading cause of disability, with around 7,400 strokes occurring each year. There are nearly 67,000 stroke survivors living in Wales.
Caerphilly County Borough Council yesterday decided not to continue funding the area’s stroke recovery service. The Stroke Association, which runs the service, has expressed disappointment at the decision.
After a stroke, some people have difficulty swallowing. Food and drink can go down the wrong way into the lungs instead of the stomach. This can cause a serious chest infection. The intended outcome of this project is to find new knowledge to help guide future policy on the reduction of chest infection risk after stroke.
