The Stroke Association is a member of the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC). Published today, the AMRC have launched a new booklet outling highlighting how vital health information is to enable researchers to prevent, diagnose and treat disease and improve care.
Following a stroke, some patients and their relatives describe dissatisfaction with the information they receive about the patient’s outlook for recovery. The outcome of this study should be an intervention for stroke unit staff, which can help them better address the issue.

People with stroke due to brain haemorrhage have swelling around the haemorrhage on their brain scan. More swelling worsens recovery. No treatment improves outcome after this swelling.
The programme will use biological information about cells and molecules, and information from patients, to design a study of treatment for swelling after brain haemorrhage.
The overall purpose of this research is to make laboratory stroke experiments more reliable and useful for informing how to design human clinical trials with a higher chance of success.
