Feedback on a new UK wide communication symbol
Symbols are widely used to support people with visual and hearing impairments as they go about their day-to-day activities. But how is it made clear if a business or service offers support for anyone with a communication difficulty?

Over the last 18 months, the Stroke Association has been working with Communication Matters, Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, MND Association and a number of other communication-related organisations to discuss launching a recognisable UK Communication Access symbol.

If a company or business has the symbol on display, it will mean that staff have received training on how to support people with communication difficulties and have met a set of agreed standards.

Promotion of the new symbol will help people with communication difficulties to feel more confident about being out and about when they are shopping, travelling, choosing a meal in a restaurant or wherever they engage with customer-facing staff. We believe the symbol will be life-changing for many people, including those who have aphasia and other communication difficulties following a stroke.

You can help choose the basic concept for the new symbol by taking part in a short survey

The deadline to complete the survey is Wednesday 28 February. It can also be downloaded as a hard copy.
