How does it work?

First Steps is a stroke-specific, emotional support, counselling service for stroke survivors and carers who live in Northern Ireland. The service provides free, professional, one to one, counselling by telephone or on-line. Find out more about First Steps.  

Third-party referrals from statutory or third sector organisations are especially welcome for this service. If you would like to refer a client or patient you can access this service by filling out our online form below. For more information please see our Frequently Asked Questions.

Please provide any other information that might be relevant eg other professionals involved (GP, community stroke team, clinical psychology), relevant medical information or risk factors to be considered.

Additional needs

Stroke Association does not automatically accept all referrals received and reserves the right for appropriate decision making with respect to the criteria detailed in the FAQs as to what is/is not considered to be an appropriate referral for the service.
