London stroke survivor and sculptor John Somerville was presented with the Creative Arts Award.
The award was in recognition of his commitment to rebuilding his life after stroke.
In 2012, John had a severe stroke which left him with weakness in his right arm and leg, partial sight loss and several ‘hidden’ disabilities including fatigue. As a sculptor needing the use of both arms and legs, this was a huge blow. Following years of rehabilitation, John is now currently offering unpaid tuition to budding sculptors.
Lost for Words is a campaign to raise awareness and funds to enable the Stroke Association to support people who struggle with communication after a stroke. This year’s Life After Stroke Awards supported this campaign. Text ‘Stroke Awards’ to 70500 to donate £5.
