Elections in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

Call on your local candidates to take action

Stroke occurs approximately 152,000 times a year in the UK and  is the largest cause of complex disability – affecting half of all stroke survivors.

A number of medical conditions can increase your risk of stroke, including atrial fibrillation (AF) and high blood pressure. We believe that many strokes could be prevented through better detection and management of these two key risk factors.

Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland elections campaign update

In the run up to the May 2016 Elections in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, we asked our supporters to contact their candidates calling on them to commit to a set of key actions to help prevent strokes.

Thank you for your support; this has been a great start to disseminating an important stroke prevention message.

In Northern Ireland  60 candidates pledged their support and 26 are now elected as MLAs.

In Scotland, 38 candidates pledged their support and 14 are now elected MSPs.
