We are the UK’s leading charity for stroke.

Our vision is for a world where there are fewer strokes and all those touched by stroke get the help they need. Our mission is to prevent strokes and achieve life after stroke through providing services, campaigning, education and research.

We are committed to acting fairly and ethically wherever we do business.  The Stroke Association condemns corruption in all its forms and will not tolerate it in our business or in those we do business with.

This statement is made pursuant to section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 (“the Act”). It constitutes the Stroke Association’s slavery and human trafficking statement for the financial year ended 31 March 2017. It covers the activities of the Stroke Association and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Stroke Association Trading Limited.

Our Staff and Activities

Stroke Association employs approximately 800 staff and has approximately 3,300 volunteers engaged in delivering and supporting a range of activities.  Both staff and volunteers receive safeguarding training which outlines the risks, signs and dangers of Modern Slavery.

Other than staff costs, the largest proportion of the Stroke Association’s expenditure is on the provision of Life after Stroke Services. Given the nature of our work, the charity’s policies address Modern Slavery particularly in the context of safeguarding vulnerable adults and children.

Our Supply Chain

Our supplier expenditure is limited and therefore our exposure to the risks of modern slavery through the supply chain is also limited.  As members of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Suppliers (CIPS), our key procurement personnel are trained to a high standard.  We are committed to ethical procurement, with our standard invitation to tender making specific reference to the Act and asking suppliers to demonstrate ethical policies and procurement practices within their own supply chains.

This statement has been approved by the Board of Trustees of the Stroke Association and the Board of Directors of the Stroke Association Trading Limited and signed on their behalf.
