Our charity collaborated with SBRI Healthcare and the AHSN Network to fund innovations in technologies to improve diagnosis and rehabilitation of stroke.
We anticipate a shortfall of £1.5 million in our funding programme this year to resume current research and support vital new projects. This could have a catastrophic knock-on effect for stroke research and delay access to important new life-changing treatments that allow people to rebuild their lives after stroke.

Spatial neglect is caused when damage to the brain after stroke means that it no longer received information about one side of the body and/or world. Stroke survivors with spatial neglect might not be aware of anything happening on one side of their body. This research will investigate a computer based version of a new treatment for spatial neglect after stroke.
This research will test a new questionnaire which has been designed to measure the impact that stroke-related vision problems have on a stroke survivor’s quality of life.
Torpor is a natural state of reduced energy use and body temperature. This research will look at the effect of torpor on brain activity and function, and the amount of brain damage caused by ischaemic stroke.
Everyday talking involves being able to understand sentences, something that can be affected by aphasia. This research will design and test a new therapy which aims to help improve understanding of everyday sentences in people with aphasia.
‘Supported self-management’ is the help and support offered to stroke survivors and their families after they have left hospital. This research will look at what does and doesn’t work to help stroke survivors and their families to self-manage.
