Door-to-door/Face-to-face fundraising FAQs

Our professional fundraisers visit homes around the UK and set up in different venues to ask supporters to sign up and play our Weekly Lottery. These are the FAQs about this method of fundraising.

Thousands of stroke survivors and their families benefit from our support across the UK. One of the ways we are fundraising right now is through door-to-door.

This means that our professional fundraisers visit homes in designated areas around the UK to ask supporters to sign up to play our Weekly Lottery or regular gift via Direct Debit.

We use specialist agencies called Burden and Burden, and Smile Fundraising who help coordinate and carry out our campaign.

  • They will have a photo ID badge.
  • They will have a Stroke Association information laminate.
  • They will be dressed in our branded polo shirts or fleeces.

If you have any doubts, please call 0300 330 0740 or email supporter.relations@stroke.org.uk(link sends email).

Yes, we do. Working with agencies helps us speak to many more supporters than we could do ourselves, which means we can help more stroke survivors make the best possible recoveries, and fund more life-changing research into stroke prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.

For our Face-to-Face campaign, we are working with agencies Burden and Burden, Smile Fundraising and The Fundraising Partnership. The fundraisers we are working with are as passionate as we are when they’re talking to new supporters. We hold them to the same high standards we would hold ourselves, and ensure that they’re always being respectful and acting in accordance with the fundraising regulations.

  • We regularly run training sessions with our fundraisers.
  • We observe our fundraisers at work to check everything is going well.
  • We ask our supporters for feedback. Please give us a call on 0300 330 0740 or email us supporter.relations@stroke.org.uk if you’d like to share your feedback.

Yes, our fundraisers from Burden and Burden, Smile Fundraising and The Fundraising Partnership are professionally trained and paid to work for us.

No. Our fundraisers are not permitted to ask for cash, they are only allowed to ask someone to sign up to a regular gift or to play our Weekly Lottery through Direct Debit.

If a fundraiser asks you for cash, they may not be genuine so please report this to us. Please call us on 0300 330 0740 or email us at supporter.relations@stroke.org.uk.

Talking to people like you on your doorstep, the street or at an event is one of the most successful ways of raising regular donations. With the help from supporters like you, more stroke survivors and their families can get the support they need, when they most need it.

We take the security of your personal details extremely seriously and have measures in place to protect them. Read our supporter promise(link is external).

If you’ve chosen to support us with a gift or by playing our Weekly Lottery by Direct Debit, you will receive a letter from us confirming your details and notifying you of the amount and date your donation will reach us.

If an error is made by the Stroke Association or your bank or building society, you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your branch of the amount paid.

You can find out more about your rights under Direct Debit on the Direct Debit website.

You can also cancel a Direct Debit at any time by writing to your bank or building society, or by emailing, calling or writing to:
