The Emotional Support Service is a pilot project in Northern Ireland and provides stroke survivors with free, professional one to one counselling support. The service is staffed by qualified counsellors who are trained in recognising, understanding and working with the emotional effects of stroke.
This research will investigate 2000 drugs that are already known to be safe for use in humans to see if they could help reduce the amount of damage to the brain an intracerebral haemorrhage (a type of stroke caused by a bleed in the brain) causes.
Fatigue is common after stroke, but there’s currently a lack of treatment available for fatigue after stroke. This research will create a fatigue management programme designed to support stroke survivors to self-manage their fatigue.
