Made in collaboration with patients and staff, a goal-setting tool should be produced which is helpful to use on stroke rehabilitation units.
The findings of this research could help provide stroke survivors and their relatives with more accurate information about what impacts they can expect over time, and will help doctors and therapists identify which patients with visual neglect will benefit the most from new treatments.
About 80% of strokes are caused by a blocked blood vessel. One third of these patients have a blockage of a large blood vessel in the neck or brain known as large artery occlusion stroke (LAOS).
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans provide lots of data on the health of a person’s brain, not all of which is routinely used in clinical practice. This project will continue the development of tools to assess the brain scans of people with stroke.
Can stem cells be used to reduce the damage of inflammation after stroke and promote brain repair?

This study will explore whether an existing therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), can be used for people with aphasia. Information will also be collected to design a future large-scale trial evaluating this approach.
Disease of the chest portion of the largest artery in the body (the aorta), is known as thoracic aortic disease (TAD). The number of people experiencing TAD is increasing. This study is investigating how to make thoracic endovascular aortic stenting (TEVAR), the preferred method of treating TAD, safer by using extra protection devices.
